Editor's note: The Presidents of the United States of America played two sold-out shows at Showbox at the Market last weekend. Unfortunately Ear Candy wasn't able to make it out to either concert but we wanted to celebrate thes national treasures that are Seattle's own PUSA. So in honor of both Presidents Day and PUSA, below is a post lifted from the original Ear Candy that appeared on Presidents Day of 2008.
As I am doing so all I can think is: "Man, what a great band. They're such a great band that they actually have a day named after them. How cool is that?"
What's that you say dear reader? You mean Presidents Day isn't a day to celebrate of kitties, froggies, dune buggies, 30-foot Smurfs and Carla the stripper straight from L.A.?
Well, to steal a phrase, that's totally feather pluckin' insane.
While Presidents Day is officially about Abe Lincoln and George Washington, in this "what have you done for me lately?" day and age, Ear Candy is choosing to honor Seattle's very own Presidents of the United States of America. Sure George Washington helped found our nation (and this state is named after him) and good old Honest Abe freed the slaves, but seriously what have they done for me in my lifetime? Not as much as Chris, Dave, Jason and Andrew have I'll tell ya that much.
Everybody's favorite jokester rock trio, The Presidents of the United States of America, released a free track on their Web site today called "Rooftops in Spain." You can get the download by submitting your e-mail address to the widget below and be sure to check out their shows at Showbox at the Market Friday and Saturday nights.
