Seattle's bastion of cool, Sub Pop Records, is reissuing Nirvana's debut album "Bleach" on Nov. 3. The reissue is an expanded CD/double-LP and will include a never-before-released live performance, special packaging and the first run of the double-LP will be on 180g white vinyl (the first run of the original LP was also on white vinyl). The photo above is not of the reissue.
The album originally sold 40,000 copies and went on to sell more than 1.7 million in the U.S. The band recorded the record with producer Jack Endino and Endino remastered the original tapes for this reissue. The live recording is of a Feb. 9, 1990 show at the Pine Street Theatre in Portland, Ore. The show features performances of “Love Buzz,” “About a Girl” and a cover of The Vaselines’ song “Molly’s Lips” and has been remixed from the original tapes by Endino (complete track listing below). A 48-page CD /16-page LP booklet which includes candid photos of the band not previously released to the public will also be included in this deluxe edition.
The Associated Press is reporting that Aerosmith has canceled the rest of its tour, including their Aug. 17 date at the White River Amphitheatre as a result of frontman Steven Tyler's sudden fall off of the stage a few days back. YouTube clip is back on the previous post. Ticket refunds will be available at the place of purchase, according to the press release issued from MSO (though I don't see it on their Web site).
Have you heard Jack White's new band Dead Weather? It features Alison Mosshart (of The Kills and Discount) handling vocal duties, Jack White on drums, Dean Fertita (of Queens of the Stone Age) playing guitar and Jack Lawrence (of The Raconteurs and The Greenhornes) on bass.
They released their debut album "Horehound" a few months back and they will be at the Paramount Theatre Aug. 20. Tickets for the show cost $30 before taxes and service charges. But not today.
You can get $10 balcony seats for Dead Weather today by clicking here and entering the password MONQUI.This is a one day only thing so jump on it while you have the chance.
Also, while you have the chance, jump on this contest to enter an autographed poster for the film "It Might Get Loud" that features Jack White, Jimmy Page and The Edge.
But before considering buying a ticket on the lawn, look at the photo to the right that was taken during a recent Coldplay concert there.
Can you see the band? The opener for Coldplay is supposed to be there somewhere. I sure can't see them from the grass because the amphitheater was designed in the most horrible way ever. I couldn't see Coldplay until the sun went down, some three songs after they had started. Plus, the sound sucked. When I have more time, I'll explain more fully why this venue sucks so much.
I don't know how much the Pearl Jam tickets are but do you really want to pay $70 or so (the cost of the Key Arena shows) for this kind of view? Ugh. Don't say I didn't warn you. At least upgrade to seats INSIDE this fake ampitheater.
One week after a controversy created quite a stir over the F word on granite stones at an unofficial Aberdeen, Wash. park adjacent to the Young Street Bridge, the Downtown businesses are all about embracing the spirit of Kurt Cobain, going so far as to declare a Kurt Cobain theme for the city's annual art walk and hosting, yes, a Kurt Cobain look-a-like contest. I wrote a news story about it yesterday Anyone who has a blond wig and a hospital gown like this guy from the Nirvana tribute band Nevermind is sure to win (and this guy doesn't even have blond hair & has a beard, too).
So the theme is going to be "Come As You Art," a play on what has become the city's de facto motto, "Come As You Are." The Nirvana song's name is on sign as folks enter the city from the freeway on the east end of town. It's also etched into glass in giant letters at City Hall.
Speaking of look-a-likes for Kurt, I've got one in mind already.
Have you heard of the film "It Might Get Loud?" It's a documentary featuring three of the most innovative electric guitar players in rock n roll. The premise is quite simple and actually pretty genius. Talk guitars with Jack White, Jimmy Page and The Edge and then get them all in the same room together to talk shop and jam. The film opens in New York and other select markets Friday and will be coming to Seattle Aug. 28 at the Harvard Exit. For a taste of the film, check out the two clips below the jump that feature Jack White. To celebrate the film's release, Ear Candy is happy to not only share with you these two clips but also give you a chance to win something special. One lucky reader will win a movie poster autographed by the film's director Davis Guggenheim.
Ear Candy chatted with Born Anchors frontman Jason Parker while he was taking a break from the Capitol Hill Block Party last month. This is the second part of our conversation. The first part of our conversation is here.
The Lonely H are currently on a nationwide tour in support of "Concrete Class," which is one of the best local rock records of 2009. Don't believe me? Check out the profile I wrote about the band for the Seattle Weekly. Their next home shows are Aug. 28 at the Showbox and Sept. 4 at the Tractor. Until then check out the video for "The Singer."
A few weeks back at the Capitol Hill Block Party Ear Candy sat down with Jason Parker, singer and bassist for local buzz band Born Anchors. Here's part one of our conversation. Expect the second part of our conversation, as well as a video of an unreleased Born Anchors track, tomorrow.
